Fcebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are all down.
The apps and websites for all the services were experiencing server errors. Reports on DownDetector.com revealed that the outages appeared to be widespread. However, it’s unclear whether it affects the entire population or only a few places. There’s no information on why the outage is occurring.
The three platforms all stopped functioning at around 12 p.m.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app,” the company posted via its Twitter account. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.” Similar tweets were published about WhatsApp.
A Facebook spokesperson wasn’t available to clarification.
In the year 2019 an outage of similar duration lasted approximately an hour. Facebook stated that the outage was due to an issue with their technology. Some major websites may be down when Content delivery networks, or CDNs, stop functioning. It occurred in June in June when one of these CDN, Fastly, was affected by technical problems.
Based on the reports posted on the website it appears to have begun just half an hour ago around 9pm. Over 10-minutes, we received nearly 18,000 complaints about the outage on WhatsApp. Recently we’ve witnessed several outages similar to CDN issues and issues with CDN, which include Akamai along with Fastly being two of the recent instances; and lastly, in July, the outage affected several services, including Zomato and even Disney+ Hotstar, PSN, Steam, Paytm and many more.
