Lindsey Jacobellis, a snowboarder won the first gold medal for the United States
At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis became the first American woman to win a gold medal. Jacobellis’ Olympic gold in snowboard cross comes at the end of a lengthy road for the 36-year-old, who swept to victory in her fifth Olympic participation.
Since a horrific fall lost her gold in her Olympic debut at the 2006 Torino Winter Games, she has been working towards this victory for at least 16 years.
She has five individual global championships and ten individual X Games triumphs outside of the Games.
Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States leads Chloe Trespeuch of France in the women’s snowboard cross final. Despite this, an Olympic gold has eluded him until now.
Despite the fall, Jacobellis won silver in 2006, sixth in 2010, seventh in 2014, and fourth in 2018.
Meanwhile, her World Cup record in individual snowboard cross includes 52 podiums and 30 victories, with the snowboarder finishing third in back-to-back World Cup contests in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, this season.
