What Is Steghide

Steghide is a steganography program that is able to hide data in various kinds of image- and audio files. The color- respectively sample-frequencies are not changed thus making the embedding resistant against first-order statistical tests.

Many people have their own secrets and they would like to secure them from others. Steghide is the best tool for persons who hide their data from others. This tool is free for everyone.

Current Version

It is available in many versions but the latest version is 0.5.1.

Platform

Steghide is only available on Linus and Windows both but it is not for mac OS.

Commands

The following options can be used with all commands (where it makes sense).
-p, –passphrase               Use the string following this argument as the passphrase. If your passphrase contains whitespace,                       whitespace, you have to enclose it in quotes, for example -p“a very long passphrase”.

-v, –verbose                     Display detailed information about the status of the embedding or extracting process.

-q, –quiet                         Supress information messages.

-f, –force                          Always overwrite existing files.

You can use the info command to get some information about a cover or stego file (for example the capacity). You might want to use this if you have received a file and you are not sure if it contains an embedded message.

Installation

In Windows

In Windows, we can download Steghide from the website http://steghide.sourceforge.net/download.php. After downloading we just have to unzip the files and use them via cmd.

In Linux

In Linux, you can download it from Github. If nothing is returned then you must run the following command to install the Steghide.

Command- sudo apt-get install steghide -y

In Mac

In Mac, there is no way to download steghide till now.
